DELHI: The arrest of K. Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Tihar jail in Delhi on Thursday would actually mean that she has to get bail in two cases to come out of jail.Kavitha was earlier arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from her residence in Hyderabad on March 15 in the Delhi liquor policy case and has been lodged in Tihar jail for the last 17 days. The alleged scam involved payment of Rs 100 crore by Kavitha and other members of her cartel called South Group as kickbacks allegedly to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders of Delhi, mainly deputy chief minister and excise minister Manish Sisodia, for favours in framing and implementation of excise policy of Delhi for 2021-22.

IMPORTANT HINDU FESTIVAL: “CHAITRA NAVRATRI” 

Chaitra Navratri, a significant Hindu festival observed worldwide, occurs during the Hindu month of Chaitra. Derived from ‘nav’ meaning nine and ‘ratri’ meaning nights, Navratri encompasses nine nights of devoted worship and throughout these nine days, followers of Hinduism pay homage to Maa Durga and her nine manifestations. This year, the festival commenced on April 9 and concluded on April 17 with the celebrations of Ram Navami.
People belonging to the Maharashtrian ethnicity (ethnolinguistic group of people who speak the Marathi language) observe the first day of Navratri as Gudi Padwa which is the ‘New Year’ of the Maharashtrians as per the Hindu Luni-Solar calendar. Similarly, the Kashmiri Hindus celebrate the first day of the year as ‘Navreh’ on the first day of Navratri. Whereas, the people of Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh celebrate, the first day of Navratri as ‘Ugadi’. There are five Navratris that fall in one calendar year namely, Chaitra Navratri or Vasanta Navaratri, Ashadha Navaratri, Sharad Navaratri, Paush Navaratri and Magha Navaratri. But of all the Navratris, the Chaitra Navratri and the Sharad Navratri are popular and celebrated with great fervour.
Difference Between Chaitra Navratri And Sharad Navratri

As per Hindu calendar, the festival of Navratri happens twice a year; first at the start of summer (March-April) and the other called Shardiya Navratri in the beginning of winter (September-October). The customs and rituals observed during Chaitra Navratri are similar to the ones observed during the Shardiya Navratri in the month of September or October. Shardiya Navratri and Chaitra Navratri have the same Ghatasthapana Puja Vidhi.

History Of Chaitra Navratri

The Chaitra Navratri story is one of the most significant chapters in history which hold deep religious and spiritual significance. It is a classic example of the ‘triumph of good over evil’. There are many legends associated with Chaitra Navratri, let us read through a few of them. According to Brahma Purana, it was on the day of Chaitra Pratipada when Lord Brahma started creating the universe on the behest of Goddess Durga. Hence, this day is considered the first day of the year, according to the Hindu calendar. It is also believed, that the Matsya avatar of Lord Vishnu was incarnated on the third day of Chaitra Navratri in order to establish Mother Earth. The ninth day of Chaitra Navratri, which is popularly known as ‘Navami’ or ‘Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama who is one of the great avatars or incarnations of Lord Narayan (Shri Hari Vishnu), According to another legend, once Goddess Parvati wanted to pay a visit to Her parents for nine days, She took permission for the same from Lord Shiva, Her consort and started off Her journey to Her parents’ house. During this period, She took the form of goddess Durga and killed the demon named ‘Mahishasura’.

The significance of Chaitra Navratri is to recognise, embrace, believe and celebrate the divine power of the Shakti, which symbolises feminine energy. On a spiritual level, the auspicious time of Navratri is the best time to peep inwards and to analyse, reflect and self-introspect. It is the best time to elevate spiritually and to come closer. to the Supreme Consciousness. It is the most potent time to meditate, offer prayers with devotion, attain peace of mind and manifest what you want. Another aspect of celebrating Chaitra Navratri is to celebrate and welcome the new season. Chaitra Navratri is one of the best times to recognize our inner strengths and also to revere Maa Durga and all Her nine forms while being grateful to Mother Nature for providing food, land, water and shelter. On each day of Navratri, each incarnation of Goddess Durga is revered.

Chaitra Navratri 2024: Days And Goddesses

The entire festival that last for nine days devoted to the worship of Durga, the Shakti aspect of the Powerful Supreme. The Vedas consider Her to be the controlling agency of this material world of manifestations. Dur means jail and ga means to go. This material world is like a jail wherein everyone is pushed in to enjoy, suffer and get punished by the laws of nature acting under Her superintendence. Durga manifests Herself in different forms. All the forms are absolutely divine and worshipped.

Navratri means nine nights and it is a festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga. These nine nights are considered auspicious to worship and perform sadhanas dedicated to Her. The first three days of Navratri are dedicated to Goddess Durga, the next three to Goddess Lakshmi and the last three to Goddess Saraswati.

Chaitra Navratri plays a significant role as per Hindu Astrology. It is the time when planet Sun re-enters the first zodiac sign which is the Aries after travelling to all the 12 zodiac signs.

Ashtami Puja (Puja Performed On The Eighth Day)

Invite nine small girls to your house. These nine girls signify nine divine incarnations of Goddess Durga. Offer them delicious food, do puja of them and in the end offer them gifts and seek their blessings

Tenth Day (Visarjan) Chaitra Navratri End Time

On the last day of Chaitra Navratri, perform the regular puja that you had performed for the previous nine days. Once the puja is done, sprinkle the water in the Kalash in all the rooms and corners of the house. The Akshat that you had placed on the lid of the Kalash has to be fed to the birds. The barley seeds that you had sown must be placed under a tree in the garden.

Following the nine days of Navratri puja, Visarjan or giving a sendoff to Ma Durga is done on the tenth day. Do the regular puja as you had done on the nine days of Navratri. After the puja, sprinkle the Kalash water in all rooms of the house. Feed birds with the rice you had kept on the Kalash lid. The barley seeds would have grown well over the ten days.
