MUMBAI, 1 NOVEMBER 2025 (TGN/ BABITA PRABHAKAR M 8355975478): The Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Swiss Wine India, successfully hosted the inaugural Swiss Pavilion at ProWine Mumbai 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre.

As one of the outcomes of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), the Swiss Pavilion brought the spirit of the accord to life – translating policy into practice through a vibrant celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and commerce.

The exclusive VIP Wine Tasting featured ten acclaimed Swiss wineries, collectively presenting over 50 premium wines to India’s leading sommeliers, connoisseurs, and industry stakeholders. The curated sessions — including “The Alpine Whites of Switzerland” and “Pinot Noir: The Soul of Swiss Terroir” — offered an authentic taste of Switzerland’s rich winemaking heritage. The event was attended by Swiss diplomats, Indian business leaders, and representatives from the luxury and hospitality sectors.

More than 60% of the wines showcased were crafted from indigenous Swiss grape varieties, reflecting the country’s commitment to artisanal production, regional identity, and quality over quantity. For Swiss winemakers – known for their small-batch, high-altitude vineyards – India represents more than a new market; it is a bridge for cultural and creative exchange.

Ten wineries presented 54 premium wines, 60 percent of which are crafted from indigenous Swiss grape varieties. For Swiss winemakers – whose focus is small production, artisanal quality, and heritage storytelling – India is not just a commercial opportunity.

Satish Rao, President, Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce, said, “The Swiss Pavilion is a celebration of how trade can build cultural bridges. TEPA has opened new doors for Swiss makers to connect with India’s vibrant consumer landscape. As a Chamber, we see ourselves as facilitators of this exchange — where commerce meets culture, and where partnerships grow from shared appreciation of craftsmanship. Since the signing of TEPA, The Chamber has played a key role in securing USD 2.1 billion investment commitments, spanning multiple sectors. The Chamber holds a binding commitment of $100 bn investment and 1 million direct jobs in the next 15 years.”

With a median age of 28, a rapidly growing middle class, and more than 100 million aspirational consumers, India today is not just an emerging market – it is an ascending lifestyle economy. The country’s cosmopolitan hospitality scene, centred in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, has become a launchpad for global fine wine brands. Over the past decade, imports of premium European wines have tripled, driven by five-star hotels, private clubs, and fine-dining chains that are redefining India’s taste for premium experiences. The country’s luxury and fine beverage sector is projected to grow over 10% annually, making it an ideal destination for Switzerland’s boutique, world-class wines that have rarely been seen beyond Europe.

The ProWine debut also forms part of the Chamber’s 2025–26 Swiss – India Engagement Calendar, which includes trade forums, networking events, and cultural showcases designed to deepen Indo–Swiss collaboration.

From the vineyards of Lavaux and Valais to the skyline of Mumbai, the Swiss Pavilion marks a symbolic beginning — proof that when passion meets business, both nations rise together.
