MUMBAI, 8 th July 2026 ( TGN ) : Mumbai-born filmmaker and producer Tanya Agarwal has steadily established herself as a promising talent in international cinema, building an impressive portfolio across independent filmmaking, film production, studio development and talent management in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Tanya’s filmmaking journey began at the age of 15, when she started making student short films that were screened at a local theatre in Mumbai. The early exposure to filmmaking sparked her passion for storytelling and laid the foundation for her career in film production.
While pursuing her undergraduate studies in London, Tanya worked as a Line Producer on a feature film, an experience that strengthened her interest in producing. She also gained practical industry experience with the London unit of a Bollywood television series, working as an Assistant to the Cinematographer on a show that later streamed on ZEE5.
She completed an accelerated Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Practical Filmmaking from the MetFilm School, London, where she trained under industry professionals in an intensive, hands-on production environment. During the course, she worked on several short films, taking on multiple creative roles including writer, director, producer and cinematographer, gaining comprehensive experience in independent filmmaking.
Tanya later moved to the United States to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Film and Television Production at the prestigious University of Southern California (USC) School of Cinematic Arts, one of the world’s leading film schools. She has now successfully completed the programme.
During her time at USC, she produced multiple short films while also serving as a Teaching Assistant in the university’s Film Production Department for two years. In recognition of her academic excellence and contribution to filmmaking, she was awarded the prestigious USC Graduate Edward Thomas Troutner Scholarship.
Her work has also earned recognition on the international film festival circuit. The short film “Goldie,” which she produced, was officially selected for the Chattanooga Film Festival, while another production, “Blue Top,” was selected for the LA Shorts International Film Festival, one of the most respected short film festivals in the United States.
Beyond filmmaking, Tanya has developed valuable experience in film development and talent management through internships with leading entertainment companies, including Mosaic Media Group, Stride Management, Hammerstone Studios, and Unwell. Her responsibilities included script evaluation, project tracking, talent assessment and supporting development teams during various stages of production.
Most recently, Tanya completed production on a feature film, managing the project from its initial development stage through post-production. She oversaw an estimated production budget of approximately USD 200,000, handling budgeting, scheduling, crew management, logistics and overall production operations throughout the filmmaking process.
With hands-on experience spanning production, development, creative execution and talent management, Tanya Agarwal represents a new generation of Indian filmmakers making their mark on the global stage.
