Shahana to Celebrate 51st Anniversary with a Grand Cultural Extravaganza Featuring Rajendranandini and Alokdhara
MUMBAI 27 th August 2026 ( TGN ) :Shahana (Tagore Centre for Indian Music and Culture), one of India’s premier institutions dedicated to preserving and promoting Indian music, dance, and cultural heritage, will celebrate its 51st anniversary and the culmination of its Golden Jubilee year with a grand cultural evening on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. at the Veer Savarkar Auditorium.
The evening promises to be a memorable artistic experience, blending dance, music, poetry, and theatre through two distinguished productions—Rajendranandini – The Warrior Princess and Alokdhara.
Directed by the acclaimed Anusree Bonnerjee and scripted by Upamanyu Bhattacharya, Rajendranandini – The Warrior Princess is a unique and contemporary interpretation of Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless dance drama Chitrangada. The production explores powerful themes of gender equality, inner beauty, and women’s empowerment. Renowned dancer Anil Kumar Singh will portray the pivotal role of Arjun, bringing one of the Mahabharata’s most celebrated characters to life on stage.
Speaking about his role, Anil Kumar Singh said, “Working with the Shahana Dance Company has always been an inspiring experience. Portraying Arjun in ‘Chitrangada’ is a role that has always remained close to my heart, and it is a privilege to bring this iconic character to life once again.”
The second presentation, Alokdhara, is a thematic evening of Rabindra Sangeet dedicated to Shahana’s founders—Indrani Acharya, Sunanda Majumdar, and Snigdha Basu. Young Rabindra Sangeet artistes Shramana Chattopadhyay, Megh, and Palashi Ghosh will present soulful performances centred on the three manifestations of divine feminine energy—Creation, Preservation, and Regeneration. Each segment will be introduced through evocative poetry by Upamanyu Bhattacharya, adding depth to the thematic narrative.
The evening will feature musical direction by Arup Chowdhury, while Anusree Bonnerjee, Purbita Mukherjee, and Anil Kumar Singh will lead the dance performances.
Celebrating over five decades of artistic excellence, the event promises to be a fitting tribute to Shahana’s rich cultural legacy and an unmissable occasion for lovers of Indian classical arts, Rabindra literature, music, and dance.
